Deliberate or not, this is next-level agnotogenesis (creating uncertainty or doubt to stave off regulatory action).


Then we'd actually have to collaborate with and fund the social sciences, which is a no go for a lot of people. Relatedly, it's not like social scientists stopped producing data, is just that very few people seem interested in helping them structure and share it. Not even the GDPR took this into account. :P
